Breathing new life into the Old School Room

Breathing new life into the Old School Room

Monday, 23 February 2015

Situated between Haworth Parish Church and Bronte Parsonage Museum,

The Old School Room is the ONLY building built by and taught at by all the Bronte family.

From 1845 it was managed by Charlotte Bronte's husband to be, Arthur Bell Nicholls.  Surviving historical documents provide fascinating accounts of each famous Bronte undertaking the task of educating the poor children of Haworth.
The old School Room was replaced as a school in 1903 but retained its focus as a community building being used as a gym, a library, an army billet during the second world war and as a Youth Hostel.
Today it is the key centre of the Bronte experience.
Bronte Spirit are breathing new life into the Old School Room in Haworth maintaining and opening it so that future generations can explore and appreciate this valuable historical site.
The Old School Room is now open for public viewing and is currently undergoing some restorations and repair work.
It is also exclusively available for your events, meetings and parties, finances received from such go back into the work on the building and donations are welcomed to aid in this valuable maintenance.
Charlotte Brontes wedding party was hosted here accommodating some 500 guests, how many people can say they held their party where the Brontes held theirs ?

It was such a sight to see and hear a small girl eagerly calling her friend on her fathers phone telling her friend she was playing where the Bronte sisters had been.

You too can tell your friends or invite them to this important literary place and walk or dance in the footsteps of the Brontes.
